How to Operate an Automated Process

I've been in the automation business for a few years now, and there's a common control strategy I've picked up on. In order to operate a computerized control system, one must follow these simple guidelines:
  1. If it doesn't beep, ignore it.

  2. If it won't stop beeping, unplug it.

  3. If someone asks, blame the software.
If you follow these simple rules, you can be an operator in almost any facility in the country.

I think #1 should be " If it beeps, ignore it.", but yea, that's spot on for many operators. At least #3 is. =]

I've seen more operators call in an I/E tech for a "plc problem" when it was their equipment that was actually malfunctioning.
